The vessel Navigator of the Seas had departed San Pedro, California, and was bound for Ensenada, Mexico, when the incident occurred. A passenger, who was under the influence, made threatening remarks and engaged in aggressive behavior, causing a disturbance on the ship. Less than an hour after departing San Pedro, a passenger tried to return to his stateroom to charge his phone and grab a jacket when he encountered the disruptive guest. The disruptive passenger kicked a crew member in the face and punched another. Eventually, the ship’s security team, equipped with pepper spray, zip ties, and handcuffs, successfully subdued the guest, who had also been spewing profanity and racial comments. Security set up a barrier and then attacked and subdued the disruptive guest. This swift action by the security team is a testament to the safety measures on the cruise ships. The disruptive guest spent the rest of the cruise in one of the ship’s brigs.
